The key to staying motivated is finding something you enjoy, which is why we offer a huge range of classes for all ages and fitness levels at the Hawthorn Aquatic and Leisure Centre.
We hold over 100 classes every week in our Group Fitness rooms and 10 classes in our Cycle Studio. Most classes run from 55-60 minutes, while express classes run for 30 or 45 minutes. A whole body gentle conditioning workout to improve overall strength, particularly the core muscles. Aqua Aerobics is is a water based class that is suitable for all levels as it is conducted with background music. Due to the in-water nature of the class this class reduces bodyweight and allows participants to complete movements in water that they wouldn’t necessarily be able to do on land.
A combination of Pilates, Yoga and Ballet movements, focusing on core strength and stability. Exercises are paired with stretches between sets to elongate muscles and release stress and tension.
A pre-choreographed high intensity workout which is both very simple and extremely effective. High in inspiration and athleticism to improve your co-ordination and stamina whilst helping you to achieve your fitness goals. BodyAttack™ Express is a 30 minute format.
A pre-choreographed mind body class set to inspiring music. Featuring movement and techniques that draw from Yoga, Tai Chi and Pilates, you will leave this class feeling aligned, strong and energised.
A pre-choreographed step class featuring simple and easy to follow movement sequences on and around an adjustable step platform. Challenging and enjoyable for the beginner to experienced exerciser.
A fun and interactive high-energy class including a variety of boxing exercises, sequences and techniques. Open to experienced boxers and those who have never boxed before, the class is designed to improve your fitness, strength and confidence.
'Dance for Neurobalance' is a therapeutic and artistic class combining different dance genres in a supportive environment. Emphasis is placed on coordination, rhythm, mobility, balance, breath, fluidity of movement, musicality and creative fun. Designed to target adults with neurological disorders and taught by a certified Dance for Parkinson’s Disease instructor.
Deep Water Aqua simulates land-based movements in deep water while free-floating or using buoyancy tools. This type of exercise removes stress put on the joints during load-bearing exercises. Hydro belts are often one of the tools worn in this class to suspend participants in the water while they complete a range of drills.

Focused on strength based resistance training, correct exercise techniques and ensuring the safe form of weightlifting in the gym, this class is designed to create a fun and enjoyable environment for youth members to be involved in.
A water based class for older adults with arthritis, joint replacements, weak muscles, chronic pain or conditions that have mobility restrictions. The water provides support for the body while you stimulate your muscles, assist with joint pain and improve flexibility and balance. Participants do need to be competent in water.
A demanding whole body workout using the kettlebell in a variety of dynamic movements to build strength, stamina and improve flexibility and joint strength.
Metcon involves a combination of functional strength training and high intensity interval training – creating the ultimate whole body workout.
A welcoming and friendly 45 minute class for intermediate to fit people (50yrs+). Activities involve using bands, balls, steps and weights that will improve balance, core strength and flexibility.

Learn a new dance style every week! Latin, Hip Hop, Swing and Bollywood your way into fitness with these simple and classic dance steps. Suitable for all fitness levels, no experience required.
Exercises for older adults, based on progressive resistance training, and incorporates aerobic exercise, balance and flexibility while improving general core strength. Important to note this class incorporates Pilates and Yoga movements, so may include mat work.
These classes involve a range of upper and lower body strength, core and flexibility exercises for older adults. They are functional and relevant exercises related to daily activities and falls prevention. The atmosphere is welcoming, friendly, fun, social and provides an excellent workout to make you feel stronger, relaxed and feeling good. All classes are open to restricted members.
Run Group is suited to all levels of runner, whether you are aiming to complete your first parkrun, or training for your 100th Marathon. You will run in a friendly, supportive, and inclusive environment where individuals can develop confidence, improve fitness and work towards reaching their full running potential. Run sessions are tailored to suit all levels of ability and are delivered by an Athletics Australia qualified coach.
Combining weight training and metabolic conditioning to improve your strength and enhance your performance - teaching you how to move more efficiently and perform better both in training and everyday life. Classes will include mobility, strength and a metabolic conditioning workout to help build and maintain lean muscle, and increase strength, metabolism and overall fitness levels.
Total Tone class is a full body conditioning and strengthening workout, improving functional strength, flexibility and co-ordination.
Move mindfully and deliberately into different poses that work your strength and flexibility. Combined with focusing on relaxation and mindfulness at the same time, you will leave feeling refreshed, strong and free in body and mind.
This class uses an intelligent mix of yoga postures, somatic movement, breath work and meditation to cultivate ease of movement and freedom of mind. This class is nurturing, cultivates strength and mobility in the joints and tissues of the body. The practice is light and creative but slower paced and gentle. It is great for any experience levels and also for those who feel like slowing it down and sinking deeper into their practice.
Hatha yoga focuses on improving mobility, breathing, balance, strength and stamina through strengthening and stretching postures. The practice is paired with a breathing and concentration exercises, leading to relaxation of the mind and body.
Improve your strength and flexibility and balance whilst teaching your body to move with ease, grace and control. Slow the movement down, hold poses for a few breathes and emphasis calmness in the body and mind.
Yin yoga holds poses and applies moderate stress to the connective tissues of the body, the tendons, fascia, and ligaments with the aim of increasing circulation in the joints and improving flexibility. Suitable for all levels and ages.

- Be respectful and supportive of your fellow participants and our talented instructors
- Be upfront with your instructor about any physical limitations or injuries you may have, especially if you're pregnant
- Let the instructor know if it’s your first time in a fitness class
- The minimum age to attend group fitness is 13 years
- The minimum age to attend Adrenaline HIT is 18 years
- If you need to leave early, do so in a way that won’t impact others or the flow of the class
- Put equipment away after the class
