Hawthorn Aquatic and Leisure Centre is home to two allied health services who can help you get back into the best physical condition possible.

Glenferrie Sports and Spinal Clinic (GSSC)

Whether you’re recovering from surgery, an injury or day to day soreness, GSSC will provide you with the best health and fitness advice to meet your needs.

Services 

  • Physiotherapy
  • Podiatry
  • Massage
  • Sports medicine
  • Specialised rehabilitation services, including hydrotherapy

Hours

  • Monday - Friday: 8:00am - 7:00pm
  • Saturday: 8:00am - 12:00pm

Appointments are subject to practitioner availability.

Referrals

For our practitioners, Health Care Rebates are available from your Extras Private Insurance Cover (depending upon your particular level of cover you have).

Our Physiotherapists are qualified to see Workcover, TAC and DVA patients. Additionally, if your GP refers you under the EPC, you may be eligible for up to five treatments bulk billed.

Exercise Physiology and Hydrotherapy Services

Exercise physiology and hydrotherapy services are also available in centre.

These services are run by an independent exercise physiologist who provides specialised care in clinical allied health and wellbeing. They provide individual and small group consultations in both the gym and hydrotherapy pool.

Exercise physiology caters for:

  • Cardiopulmonary conditions
  • Musculoskeletal injuries and conditions
  • Neurological conditions e.g. Parkinson's Disease, MS, chronic pain
  • Metabolic conditions e.g. diabetes, metabolic syndrome, obesity, PCOS
  • Cancer rehabilitation
  • Pre & post-surgery rehabilitation
  • Workplace and motor vehicle injuries
  • Strength & conditioning and performance programs

Hydrotherapy can benefit a range of conditions including:

  • Back pain
  • Tendinopathy
  • Balance / coordination difficulties
  • Shoulder pain
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Arthritis
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Chronic pain
  • Neurological conditions
  • Cerebral palsy
  • Rehabilitation after fractures or joint replacement
  • Pre & post orthopaedic surgery

Referrals

A referral from a doctor or allied health practitioner is NOT required, however you may wish to speak to your GP about a referral to see if you are eligible for funding assistance through Medicare, DVA, NDIS, WorkSafe or TAC.

HICAPS is available in centre and rebates through health insurance are available from your Extras Cover (depending on your particular level of cover).
